Inside the Lab: Designing the Milwaukee M12 Cut Off Tool Insert
Share
Inside the Lab — A proper home for your M12 Cut Off Tool.
If you’re sick of your m12 cut off tool gear floating around your Milwaukee PACKOUT, this one’s for you. This Milwaukee PACKOUT insert was built to keep the whole kit in one place, tool, dust shoe, blades, batteries, Allen key… the lot.

Designed by Code Breaker Labs with one goal: make your Compact Organiser actually feel like a purpose-built kit, not a junk drawer.
Compatibility
- PACKOUT Compact Organiser — AUS: 48228435 / USA: 48-22-8435
- M12 Cut Off Tool — AUS: M12FCOT-0 / USA: 2522-20
- Holds: dust shoe, cut off blades + extra blades, M12 batteries, and the Allen key for blade release

Disc holder — designed for peace of mind
The disc holder is built so you can actually see what you’ve got at a glance. Each blade slot gives you a clean line of sight, and we’ve spaced it so you can fit more discs without fighting to grab them.

Allen key slot — the missing tool, no longer
We hate “where’s the Allen key?” as much as you do. So we built a dedicated slot right into the blade area, with a proud ledge so it’s easy to pick up and drop back in. It’s placed near the edge for quick access without weakening the insert.

Universal vacuum adapter — the last mile
One of the biggest headaches with the dust shoe is the fitting size, it’s not universal, and everyone’s vac setup is different. So we designed our own universal adapter to give you options on-site. It sits within the dust shoe and stays constantly accessible, no extra bits floating around your box.

Battery options — with or without it’s sorted
This one was a big priority. You can store the tool with a M12 battery on (including high output or a smaller M12 CP 3Ah battery), and still keep an extra 3Ah to the side. The fitment is snug either way, so you’re not forced into “battery off” storage just to make the lid close.

Dust grate — keeping the tool clean for longer
We added an improved dust grate system so the insert can handle the mess better between cleans and still fit any blade size. More use, less gunk, less drama.
How to clean: remove the insert from the Compact Organiser, rinse/wash with water, dry it off, and drop it back in.

Ergonomics & layout — built for constant grab-and-go
The cut off tool gets used heaps, so access matters. We kept a wide open pickup zone around the grip and set everything up so it’s all visible with the lid open. One motion to grab it, one motion to put it back.

Design breakdown (the nerdy bit)
Here’s the concept layout showing how the blade storage, dust grate, battery fitment and adapter all come together.

Built for function, not fluff. If your Compact Organiser is in your daily kit, this keeps it tight, tidy, and ready to work.
